I. SCOPE OF ACTIVITY :
Forest Resources Management and Based on Community.
Jaringan Untuk Hutan ( JAUH) was founded in 2003 by activist from several NGOâ € ™ s and mass media, which concern to environmental conservation, advocacy and community empowerment issues, and started its activity in the same year. The preliminary idea to found JAUH is the awareness and similar of perception among the founders that to overcome the complicated problems and to get the bigger aim on natural resources management, it needs cooperation of multi stakeholder. Forest is chosen to be the main focus of JAUH is based on the reality that during the time, forest management in Indonesia hasn' t describe the model of sustainable forest management yet, also it hasn' t involve the community in or around the forest area as the main actor. Therefore, presence of JAUH is expected could become the facilitator for multi stakeholder who get involved in the forestry sector in the frame of sustainable, responsible and based on the community forest management. On July 29th, 2005, JAUH officially registered by Notaries document no. Ref.17 by Notaries Mr. Irwan Addy S.SH, to fulfill institutional legality, accordance to Indonesian law and regulation.
Vision:
Sustainable, Responsible and community based on the Forest Resource Management in Order To gain " Forest sustainable management, community prosperity and Increasing of Original Local Income "
Mission:
To achieve those perspective, then JAUH formulates two main missions, namely:
1. To encourage sustainable and community based on the forest management
2. To encourage law supremacy enforcement in the frame of sustainable and community based on the forest management

II. NETWORK:

Started from the first idea of the JAUH' s birth, namely to encourage cooperation of multi stakeholder in the frame of sustainable responsible and community based on the forest management, then, in doing its activity, JAUH always cooperate with multi stakeholder who concerns in sustainable forest resource management and community empowerment. Up to now, there are some institutions act as funding and partner, either government or non government, namely:

Funding: Mfp-DFID Forestry Ministry Indonesia, DFID-British, JICA-Dephut and Samdhana Institute

International/ National Partner: Tropical Forest Trust ( TFT) , Perkumpulan Telapak Indonesia, Forest Watch Indonesia ( FWI) , Non Timber Forest Product ( NTFP) , WARSI Jambi and SUPHEL Solo, WGP, SCF and partnerships

Local Partner: YASCITA, LAPPAM Sultra, LEPPMIL, WGF, SWAMI and ALPEN Sultra
Government : Forestry Minister, BP-DAS Sampara, Local government of Southeast Sulawesi Province, Local government of South Konawe Regency

Mass Media: Kendari TV, Radio Swara Alam and Green Press ( Environmental Journalist Group)

III. EXPERIENCE:

There are some experiences of JAUH relevance to the community empowerment that living within and surrounding forest area, namely:
2003 - now:
Ã – Building up participatory framework towards sustainable forest management in South Konawe District-Southeast Sulawesi Province-Indonesia. Object these programs are local communities whose living in and surrounding forest area with activities are:
v The strengthen of the society foundation who living within and surrounding the forest area through the construction of 46 social forestry groups in 46 villages, 4 ( four) Sub Districts Forums ( Forum Kecamatan) , and in the District level has been build Inter Groups Communication Forum ( LKAK) as the highest decision maker, and Hutan Jaya Lestari Cooperation ( KHJL) as local community business institute.
v Constructing of women groups of Social Forestry Program in each villages as the effort of women empowerment,
v The participative nursery establishment of local teak seedling,
v The supply of MPTS,
v Increase the role of community in forest management by establishing the participative forest protection system.
2004 -now: Eco label Certification process in community-owned forest through KHJL, in South Konawe District. Recently, KHJL as forest management entity has awarded certificate from Forest Stewardship Council ( FSC) . With this certification process, local communities have more consciousness toward the importance of sustainable forest management. We have successfully established a legally recognized community representative body, negotiated 100% percent price increases for legally trade teak, dramatically reduced illegal logging and in 2005, established the first FSC certified small scale community forests in Indonesia. In this program, JAUH works together with TFT. JAUH has responsible on strengthen the community institutional, including to facilitate the preparation of members group roles-play. TFT has responsible in facilitating the eco label certification understanding and knowledge to the KHJL members and management to implementation of sustainable forest management suitable to the FSC principles and criteria.
2006 Mapping and forest inventory training, Annual Work Planning and Five Years Planning document arrange deal with social forestry program.
2006-2009 Fair Deal for Forest Dependant Civil Society: Innovation in the commercial forestry sector. Work together with TFT and WARSI in Jambi and SUPHEL in Central Java. This program aims to facilitate local community and forest concession management in frame work sustainable forest management and respond to social responsibility.
2007 Work together with Perkumpulan Telapak Indonesia and Yabima foundation to facilitate the strengthening of community forest institutional at eight sub district, Kulon Progo District, Jogjakarta province.
2007 Survey of potency Social Forestry working area in Konawe Selatan Regency
2006-now: Due to those experiences, JAUH preparing to replicate lesson learned from South Konawe to other district especially in Southeast Sulawesi. Even some of district over Indonesia ask JAUH to facilitate them, like Aceh, Riau, Papua and Jogyakarta.
2008-2011 Development of Community Logging as Part of Redesigning Forestry, Addressing Deforestation and Improving Livelihood is Aceh. JAUH, Telapak Bogor, FFI Aceh, Fakultas Kehutanan IPB, FWI Bogor dan Asmindo.
